The Christopher School (download brochure) is set to open in September in an effort to bring New York City children back from placements in out-of-state residential schools. Located on the grounds of the Crossroads Campus in the Bronx, The Christopher School is a 12-month therapeutic residential school that will serve 24 children with developmental disabilities who require 24-hour supervision. Its proximity will allow the kids to maintain close contact with their families and communities.

Currently, the children attend out-of-state schools, some as far away as Delaware and Massachusetts, putting a strain on normal family relationships.

“Parents have to travel on weekends, at great expense in terms of time and money, but also at the expense of the rest of their family. The Christopher School will alleviate that for many New York families.” – Susan Moran, Assistant Executive Director.

The Christopher School will provide a safe, nurturing home environment as well as an integrated educational experience. The treatment plan for each child will be seamlessly integrated throughout their day. The first New York State approved residential therapeutic school for students in grades 7-12 with Asperger’s syndrome, high functioning autism and related conditions, will open on Long Island this fall.
