MADONNA HEIGHTS SERVICES

“By taking me away from the space I was in,
You helped me to start over again.
I am grateful for Madonna Heights for helping me gain a new lease on life”
Excerpt from a poem by a resident in the Residential Treatment Center

The mission of Madonna Heights Services centers on providing a spirit of hope to the most vulnerable among us. A well-known presence on Eastern Long Island, Madonna Heights offers residential, community, mental health and outreach services to adolescent girls and women in need. In 2003, over 1,400 individuals and families were assisted through the agency’s wide range of services.

Services at the Madonna Heights Campus in Dix Hills:

  • Residential Treatment Center
The Madonna Heights Residential Treatment Center provides a structured therapeutic setting for adolescent girls between the ages of 12 and 17. The program provides group life and social services as well as clinical and mental health services. Residents attend the Madonna Heights School. They also take part in a Therapeutic Adventure Based Counseling program which was donated in 2001 and helps to promote self-esteem and develop leadership and teamwork among the adolescent girls in residence. The first program of its kind for girls on Long Island, it is an adventure based counseling model that combines physical education and a challenge course with a hands on learning experience. The heart of the experience encourages full participation, learning to trust others and the development of both leadership skills and creative thinking.
  • Residential Treatment Facility
Teenage girls (ages 12-21) who need long-term mental health services under the supervision of a physician are cared for in this "cottage program." Space is available for up to 14 girls who also attend the Madonna Heights School.
  • Madonna Heights School
Fully accredited by New York State, the Madonna Heights School spans grades 7 through 12. Focusing on the individual needs of each student, the school works to help each individual develop self-confidence, maintain academic progress and develop the skills necessary for post secondary education or employment. Please see “Educational Programs”page.
  • Madonna Heights Day Treatment Program

Students are often recommended by local school districts through their Committees on Special Education.
  • Morning Star Community
Women who have completed an alcohol rehabilitation program find support at this community residence. This program has a capacity of 20 women.
