SCO Family of Services offers a variety of innovative programs that give families the tools they need to successfully nurture their young children. We know that stable, nurturing early relationships are key to a child’s social and emotional development. Our Early Childhood programs have the ultimate goal of strengthening families so that children can grow and thrive.
Our full continuum of Early Childhood programs are offered in Central Brooklyn and in Brownsville/East New York as part of the Brownsville Partnership. The Brownsville Partnership brings leading providers of affordable housing and other community services together to help Brownsville residents create a strong, healthy community.
We offer Parent-Child Home and Baby & Me in Corona, Queens. These programs are co-located with SCO’s family counseling and community support services – providing wrap around services to families if needed.
Baby & Me
Through the creative use of developmental playgroups, Baby & Me promotes the nurturing attachments between parents and young children that are critical to the healthy development of children. The playgroups also help forge connections between families from similar neighborhoods with the same-aged children, creating supportive networks within the community
Early Head Start
Early Head Start’s 2011 Annual Report
SCO’s Early Head Start Program in Brownsville provides high quality childcare and parenting support to pregnant women and families with infants and toddlers. Through center and home-based services, we promote healthy prenatal outcomes and enhance the physical, social-emotional and cognitive development of infants and toddlers. Families are able to take part in parenting workshops, receive health and nutrition information. The program gives them the tools they need to help their children succeed.
Nurse-Family Partnership
Nurse-Family Partnership is a nationally recognized home visiting program for first-time mothers. An SCO staff of registered nurses provides one-on-one, in-home visits for expectant mothers during the early stages of pregnancy through the child’s second birthday. They provide support, education and counseling on health, behavioral, self-sufficiency and parenting issues. Nurse-Family Partnership is implemented in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
The Parent-Child Home Program
Another nationally recognized program, The Parent-Child Home Program is an early literacy, school readiness and parenting program that encourages verbal interaction and educational play between parents and their preschool children. Trained Home Visitors visit families twice a week, bringing carefully selected toys and books. During each visit, they model play activities, verbal interaction and reading activities for both parents and children.
